- Chios Training Centre to Receive K-Sim Engine and Cargo Systems.
- Simulators Feature Fleet-Matched K-Chief Automation Systems.
- Hands-On Training to Boost Crew Safety and Operational Readiness.
Kongsberg Maritime signed an agreement with Capital Group, Greece, to provide sophisticated K-Sim Engine Room and Cargo Handling simulators to its training centre on the island of Chios. The investment underscores Capital Group’s commitment to safe operation and high-quality crew training, reports Kongsberg.
Mid-2025 is the planned delivery date of the simulators
The installation, to be completed by the end of June 2025, comprises K-Sim Engine Room and Cargo Handling Simulators with K-Chief automation systems. The systems are the same type installed onboard Capital Group’s tankers and LNG carriers, enabling the crew to practice on the same technology operated by the fleet.
Enhancing Familiarisation and Safety
The simulators will enable personnel to gain hands-on experience with key onboard systems, improving familiarity and reducing training gaps. “Our mission is to support the maritime industry’s transition toward smarter, safer, and more efficient operations,” said Are Føllesdal Tjønn, Managing Director of Maritime Simulation in Kongsberg Maritime.
“The fact that we can deliver both proven automation system technology in addition to immersive simulation of the systems, puts us in a unique situation in supporting shipowners maximising operational efficiency and safety.”
Capital Group Emphasises Training Integration
Capital Group recognises the role of simulation in preparing crew members for complex real-world operations, especially when tied directly to onboard systems. “Simulation training is a critical component of our crew development strategy. The ability to train on familiar automation systems, such as K-Chief 600 and K-Chief 700, ensures that our personnel gain hands-on experience, improving safety, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.”
Contract Reflects Long-Term Cooperation
Kongsberg Maritime was selected to have the contract because of the fleet-wide application of its K-Chief 600 and K-Chief 700 automation systems. The merger between simulation and operational technology provides a unified training experience that simulates onboard conditions.
Supporting Kongsberg’s Integrated Maritime Technology
The deal also reinforces the connection between Kongsberg Maritime’s onboard systems and simulation solutions, which were merged into one division as of April 1, 2025. The integrated approach facilitates improved training results and operational readiness. said Captain Ioannis Tsirigos from Capital Ship Management (Chios Branch).
