Korea and Australia have formalized their commitment to sustainable maritime practices through an MOU, finalized in Seoul. According to Korea Times, the agreement was signed by Korean Minister Kang Do-hyung, while Australian Minister Catherine King had previously signed it, with the document later delivered by Australian Ambassador Jeffrey Robinson.

Objectives and Scope

The MOU aims to enhance collaboration in several key areas, including the creation of a green shipping corridor, joint strategies for eco-friendly shipping regulations within the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and initiatives to boost the adoption and supply of alternative clean fuels.

Future Plans and Feasibility Study

As part of the agreement, Korea and Australia will work towards facilitating industry exchanges and cooperation among maritime organizations. A preliminary feasibility study for the green shipping route is set to commence in the first half of this year, marking the first step toward implementation.
