Korean Register Partners With Leading Innovators To Drive Maritime Digital Transformation

The Korean Register (KR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with four leading maritime digital solution providers Avikus, LAB021, Mapsea, and Marineworks to accelerate digital transformation in the global maritime industry. The collaboration aims to enhance ship efficiency, ensure compliance with tightening environmental regulations, and strengthen Korea’s position in maritime innovation.

A Strategic Collaboration for Smarter Shipping

As the shipping sector faces growing pressure to decarbonize and digitize, the demand for advanced solutions is increasing rapidly. Under this MOU, KR and its partners will work on developing maritime digital solutions and platforms, conducting joint research in autonomous and low-carbon technologies, and exchanging digital expertise to improve safety, environmental protection, and operational efficiency. The partnership will also extend to joint efforts in business development, marketing, and public outreach.

Harnessing Expertise from Four Innovators

Each partner brings unique capabilities that will be integrated into KR’s broader digital strategy:

  • Avikus – Specializes in AI-driven autonomous navigation.

  • LAB021 – Focuses on ship operation optimization and environmental compliance tools.

  • Mapsea – Provides big data analytics and real-time navigation services.

  • Marineworks – Delivers customized Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) and fleet management systems.

By combining these strengths, KR will offer customers a portfolio of tailored digital services, giving shipowners flexibility in adopting the solutions most suitable for their needs.
