Royal Caribbean Group has partnered with Chimbusco Pan Nation Petro-Chemical (CPN) to deliver B24 biofuel to its cruise ship, Celebrity Solstice, in Hong Kong. This marks a significant step towards the cruise line’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact, according to Offshore Energy.
Landmark Delivery
The Hong Kong government emphasizes that this landmark delivery sets a new standard for cruise lines and solidifies Hong Kong’s position as a leader in the global transition towards greener maritime practices.
The government’s Action Plan on Green Maritime Fuel Bunkering, released on November 15, 2024, outlines a comprehensive strategy with five key areas and ten specific actions to establish Hong Kong as a prominent green maritime fuel bunkering center.
The Action Plan encompasses many initiatives, including the supply of green maritime fuels, infrastructure development, port emissions reduction, incentive measures, and international collaborations.
By effectively implementing this Action Plan, the government anticipates that Hong Kong will provide bunkering services to over 60 ocean-going vessels powered by green fuels like LNG or green methanol annually by 2030, involving the handling of over 200,000 tonnes of these fuels.
