Large Cargo Ship Runs Aground Off Clayton

On December 27, a large cargo vessel was reportedly trying to stay afloat and subsequently ran aground.

What happened?

The large cargo vessel ‘Pacific Huron’ reportedly ran aground in the St. Lawrence River just west of Clayton, according to the U.S. Coast Guard in Buffalo.

The U.S Coast Guard responded to the situation and managed to secure the vessel. The vessel was loaded with soybeans when it ran aground.

Crew safe:

Fortunately, none of the crew members were injured during the incident. The vessel was also deemed safe with no reports of flooding or pollution.

Traffic affected:

Due to the vessel running aground the traffic on the seaway was affected for awhile but resumed quickly.

Once the vessel arrives at the port, its condition will be assessed before it can set sail.
