Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Technip Energies to advance the development of FRESH—a revolutionary floating facility for ammonia cracking and hydrogen production. The agreement was formalized in April 2025, marking a pivotal step toward enabling low-carbon hydrogen delivery at scale.
About the FRESH Solution
FRESH (Floating Renewable Energy SHip) is a 170-meter-long ship designed to:
-
Store up to 45,000 cubic meters of imported low-carbon ammonia
-
Convert ammonia to hydrogen using an integrated, high-efficiency cracking plant
-
Produce 50,000 tonnes of hydrogen per year with:
-
99.9+% purity
-
Over 90% energy efficiency
-
The hydrogen is compressed and offloaded to shore, supplying industrial users and heavy mobility sectors on-demand. The vessel can be relocated based on hydrogen demand, offering logistical flexibility and scalability.
Key Roles in the Partnership
-
Technip Energies will integrate its proprietary ammonia cracking technology, designed for low greenhouse gas (GHG) and NOx emissions.
-
LDA will manage:
-
The hull design and vessel construction
-
Operational management of the FRESH unit
-
The LDA-Technip Energies partnership brings together two industry leaders to pioneer sustainable maritime hydrogen infrastructure. With its innovative, mobile, and low-emission design, the FRESH project could become a cornerstone in global hydrogen supply chains, supporting the transition to cleaner energy across industries.
