Under the MOU, Jinan Shipyard will align its construction and repair activities with LR’s globally recognized classification standards. LR, in turn, will provide technical expertise by assigning qualified surveyors, guiding the shipyard through the inspection process, and issuing certifications upon successful compliance.

Leaders from both organizations emphasized that the partnership is aimed at advancing sustainable, efficient, and safety-driven shipbuilding across Qatar and the wider GCC region. The collaboration is expected to elevate regional maritime capabilities by integrating LR’s global experience with Jinan Shipyard’s growing infrastructure and ambitions.

A Milestone for Qatar’s Maritime Growth and Regional Innovation

The agreement represents a major milestone in Qatar’s efforts to expand its maritime ecosystem. Supported by advanced facilities within the Qatar Free Zone, Jinan Shipyard aims to set new benchmarks in shipbuilding and repair. LR’s involvement strengthens this ambition by ensuring that vessels meet international standards while embracing modern technological and environmental practices.

A joint steering committee will oversee the implementation of the MOU, ensuring continuous cooperation and accountability. Running until December 2026, the agreement includes provisions for renewal highlighting both sides’ long-term commitment to maritime excellence.

The partnership between Lloyd’s Register and Jinan Shipyard marks a forward-looking step for the GCC’s evolving maritime industry.
