Lloyd’s Register and Mawani Join Forces to Boost Saudi Ports

Lloyd’s Register (LR) has won a significant contract from the Saudi General Ports Authority, Mawani, to help in the development of management systems in preparation for certification at four key Saudi ports. This collaboration is to heighten operational efficiency, strengthen excellence, and further fortify the Kingdom as a prime role player in world trade, reports LR.

Consistent with Saudi Vision 2030

This partnership is integral to Mawani’s broader strategy of optimizing commercial operations at Saudi ports and expanding its visibility in international markets. By aligning with global best practices, the initiative seeks to drive the growth of national exports and contribute to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a blueprint for building a diverse and sustainable economy.

Scope of the Partnership

Over 14 months, LR will be undertaking advisory services with four major ports in Saudi. These are; Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz Port-also known as Dammam Port, Yanbu Commercial Port and Jubail Commercial Port. Development of quality procedure and environmental procedural manuals based on ISO internationally acknowledged standards shall feature within the scope. The group shall assist LR in preparing certifications of ISO 9001 or Quality Management certification, ISO 14001: Environmental Management certificate and comply accordingly with PSC processes.

Thorough Employee Training

Under this joint venture, Lloyd’s Register shall develop specific, customized training programmes for the personnel working in a port. Training programs shall comprise ISO certification norms, maritime qualifications, safety aspects, and inspections. With effective employee skill improvements, the drive shall be achieved to implement sustainable international best practices in all the ports.

Digitization of Practices

These innovations include smart digital solutions and high technology. Such facilities are designed to maximize operations efficiency while also increasing sustainability for better management of the environment and positioning the Saudi ports among the world’s most efficient ports.
