Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) to Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for its innovative 174,000 cbm Liquified Natural Gas Carrier (LNGC). The announcement, made at Gastech 2024 in Houston, highlights the collaboration between LR and SHI to support the growing global demand for LNG transportation.

Meeting Growing LNG Demand

With LNG demand projected to rise by 25-50% by 2030, the need for advanced LNG carriers is critical. SHI’s new design aims to enhance efficiency and performance, contributing to the industry’s capacity to meet future supply demands with cutting-edge technology.

Innovation and Maritime Transition

This AiP underscores SHI’s leadership in LNG carrier technology and LR’s role in advancing the maritime energy transition. Together, they will continue to develop innovative solutions, ensuring that the next generation of LNG carriers are equipped to handle future challenges.
