On August 18, the LNG carrier Al Zuwair was officially completed and delivered at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Ulsan Shipyard. The vessel will operate under a long-term time-charter agreement with QatarEnergy, one of the world’s leading LNG producers.

Al Zuwair is the third of 12 new LNG carriers ordered by QatarEnergy through a joint venture involving NYK, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., MISC Berhad, and China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited. It is the first of these vessels constructed by HHI and also marks the first time that the NYK Group will manage one of the consortium’s LNG carriers.

Technology and Environmental Features

The vessel is powered by two highly efficient X-DF 2.1 iCER dual-fuel engines, capable of running on both fuel oil and boil-off gas. It is also fitted with an air lubrication system and a reliquefaction unit that reuses surplus boil-off gas. Together, these systems enhance fuel efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and minimize environmental impact.
