A new LNG Ship Intelligence and Innovation Laboratory has officially started operations at Shanghai Maritime University, jointly established with Shandong Marine Group. Senior representatives from both sides attended the inauguration, marking the start of closer cooperation in LNG shipping technology and innovation.
Focus on Smart and Green LNG Shipping
The laboratory will support research into LNG ship operation, safety management, and intelligent technologies. Key areas include digital twin ships, onboard communication systems, IoT monitoring, and energy efficiency tools. The aim is to improve ship operations, crew training, and safety standards while supporting the transition toward green and intelligent LNG carriers.
Industry–University Cooperation Deepens
Both parties agreed to work together on technology development and talent training, including intelligent inspection systems and quality traceability tools for LNG vessels. The partnership is expected to help address technical bottlenecks, strengthen China’s high-end shipping capabilities, and support the broader development of the marine industry.
