In a significant move for the Chinese shipbuilding industry, Luda Technology Group has formed a strategic partnership with several major Chinese shipbuilders. This collaboration aims to advance the research and manufacturing of specialized flanges and pipe fittings for ships that will run on ammonia fuel.
Partnership and Goals
The newly formed alliance includes prominent companies such as China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), Haiting (Nantong) Shipbuilding Company, and COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Company. The partnership is a direct effort to strengthen China’s shipbuilding supply chain and reduce its reliance on foreign components. Luda Technology Group’s subsidiary, Luda Taian Industrial Company, will be a key supplier, providing certified products for a variety of vessels, including LNG carriers, ultra-large container ships, chemical tankers, and luxury cruise ships.
Technological Focus
The core of this partnership is a joint effort in research and development to address the unique challenges of using ammonia as a fuel source. According to Sun Yanru, R&D director at Luda Taian, ammonia-powered vessels require entirely new standards for critical components. The teams will focus on:
- New Materials: Developing and testing ammonia-resistant materials like high-nickel alloys and special stainless steels to combat corrosiveness and hydrogen embrittlement.
- Advanced Techniques: Creating suitable welding and heat treatment processes for these materials.
- Digital Supply Chains: Fostering innovation in managing supply chains digitally.
Luda Taian’s advanced laboratories will conduct extensive testing on new material samples to ensure all products meet strict international standards, guaranteeing performance and safety for next-generation vessels.
