  • Transform Your Fleet: Estimate Emission Cuts with MacGregor’s Calculator.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, launched a free digital Carbon Calculator. This will support container shipping companies in being able to calculate how many kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions can be avoided if the container shipping companies update their container cargo systems on board using MacGregor Cargo Boost, reports MacGregor.

Benefits of Cargo Boost

The Cargo Boost solution provides for the increase of carrying capacity of containers on existing vessels. It raises average utilization of cargo systems from more conventional 80% rates to as high as 90% or even 100%. This can have a capacity gain equivalent to that of an additional vessel in a fleet of ten.

Carbon Calculator Features

The MacGregor Carbon Calculator is a simple, free tool for ship owners to estimate the potential of the Cargo Boost upgrade to reduce emissions. The input details include information about the vessel, the existing container cargo system, proposed changes with Cargo Boost, and voyage specifics.

Transparency in Emission Estimates

The calculator offers full transparency by estimating the impact of the upgrade in several key areas:

  1. Percentage reduction in CO2 emissions per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU)
  2. Savings in Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) payments
  3. Fuel cost savings in US dollars per TEU
  4. Additional revenue generated in USD

Expert Insight

“Maximising cargo intake will always be one of the key drivers of container ship efficiency,” says Magnus Sjöberg, Senior Vice President of, Equipment Solutions Division, MacGregor. “Doing so not only increases vessel earnings but also cuts fuel consumption per cargo tonnage carried, thereby minimising greenhouse gas emissions and associated emissions taxes such as ETS payments.”

With the Carbon Calculator, shipping companies can now calculate, per ship and across an entire fleet, the effect of the Cargo Boost solution to make informed decisions in improving efficiency and sustainability.
