Maersk, in collaboration with Hapag-Lloyd, is phasing in the Gemini Cooperation and transitioning to a new network structure starting on 1 February 2025. This update follows a comprehensive review of ports and terminals across the Asia-Europe services and marks the next step in developing the Network of the Future.
Key Changes and Strategic Decisions
- London Gateway has been selected as the most optimal port for serving customers importing/exporting cargo to/from the UK. This decision stems from an effort to streamline the network by reducing complexity, with a focus on single-operator loops and fewer port calls per service.
- As a result, Felixstowe will no longer be part of the Gemini shared network between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.
Impact on Asia–Europe Services
- The strategic shift impacts Asia-Europe trade within the scope of the Gemini Cooperation. Further details on the changes will be communicated to customers in the coming weeks.
- Middle East – Europe (London Gateway) and Trans-Atlantic (Southampton) Gemini services remain unchanged.
- Feeder and outport coverage adjustments will be finalized and communicated soon.
Network Transition Timeline
- The change will take effect in February 2025 as part of the transition from the 2M cooperation to the Gemini Cooperation.
- Maersk continues to offer integrated solutions through its Intermodal and additional logistics services, which will complement the new ocean network.
