Maersk Boxship Collide with Another Boxship in Callao

On March 24, a Maersk boxship collided into another boxship belonging to Seaspan and chartered by Maersk Line’s 2M partner, MSC.

What happened?

The Maersk container ship ‘Laura Maersk’ collided with ‘MSC Schuba B’ at the Callao port, Peru. The collision which was caught on video shows two ships colliding against each while they were maneuvering into the port.

No major damages

Both the vessels did not sustain any major damages and were allowed to resume their voyages after an inspection was carried out to determine their seaworthiness.

The Laura Maersk was enroute to Colombia whereas the MSC Schuba B was on its voyage towards Chile.

A spokesperson for Maersk Line said, “We can confirm that the Laura Maersk was involved in a minor impact with MSC Shuba in the port of Callao, Peru, on March 24 at 06.05 local time. There was no damage to cargo on board and all the Laura Maersk crew are safe. Laura Maersk suffered minor damage and was cleared for its onward journey on Saturday March 24, as planned to Buenaventura, Colombia”.
