Maersk Expands Its Operational Business In The Port Of Jeddah

The Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” announced today that Maersk has expanded its operational and logistical business in the Kingdom, by adding the most important main shipping services to it, which links Jeddah Islamic Port with three major continents: Asia, Europe and Africa, with the aim of improving the investment environment and serving investors. 

Expanding operational business

That enabled them to grow and expand regionally and internationally, and transform the Kingdom into a leading destination for investments in the world. 

Maersk added two new shipping services: “AE12” and “AE7” to Jeddah Islamic Port as a hub and main port for these new services. 

And as a continuation of the development of the work of linking international shipping lines with the Kingdom’s ports, which magnifies the vital role of the maritime sector in the Kingdom.

New freight service connection 

The new freight service “AE7”, which was launched in early June 2023, connects Jeddah Islamic Port with 15 international ports, which are: Ningbo Zhoushan, Shanghai, Nansha, Yantian in China, Tanjung Pelepas in Malaysia, Colombo in Sri Lanka, Tangier in Morocco, Felixstowe in the United Kingdom, Hamburg in Germany, Antwerp in Belgium, London Gateway, Le Havre in France, Salalah in Oman, Khalifa in Abu Dhabi, and Jebel Ali in Dubai, with a number of 12 A ship with a capacity of 18,000 containers. 

The “AE12” service connects Jeddah Islamic Port with 13 international ports, including the ports of southern Europe, Africa and East Asia, with 12 ships as well, with a capacity of 15,000 containers.

Enhancing logistical performance

The new services constitute a quantum leap in the level and efficiency of logistical performance, linking international lines and shipping services to the Kingdom, in the process of maritime transport, and contribute to enhancing the level of competitiveness of Jeddah Islamic Port, confirming what the Kingdom has achieved in recording the highest progress in the region in the maritime navigation network connectivity index, according to a report. UNCTAD in the last quarter of the year 2022, to reach 71.
