- Maersk halts vessel calls at Port of Haifa, Israel.
- Decision follows risk assessment linked to Israel-Iran conflict.
- Cargo acceptance for Haifa also suspended temporarily.
- Ashdod port operations continue with alternative solutions for clients.
Shipping giant Maersk has announced a temporary suspension of its vessel operations and cargo acceptance at the Port of Haifa, Israel. The move comes in response to rising security risks amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
The company said it made the decision after thoroughly analysing threat risk reports related to the ongoing conflict. The potential danger to crew and assets when calling certain Israeli ports prompted Maersk to halt operations at Haifa as a precautionary measure.
Crew Safety and Cargo Protection a Priority
Maersk emphasized that the safety of its seafarers and the security of cargo remain its foremost priorities. “We have taken this proactive measure to safeguard our people, assets, and customers’ cargo in light of increased regional instability,” the company stated.
While operations in Haifa are paused, Maersk confirmed that its vessels will continue to call at the Port of Ashdod. Arrangements are being made to assist affected customers by rerouting shipments or offering alternate transport options.
Ongoing Monitoring and Customer Support
Maersk said it is in direct contact with clients whose shipments may be impacted, and efforts are underway to minimise disruptions. The company added that it is closely monitoring the evolving situation and will reconsider its decision as conditions permit.
Further updates will be issued as new information becomes available, Maersk said, reaffirming its commitment to operational safety and customer service during the ongoing crisis.
