A.P. Moller-Maersk, a prominent shipping group, has announced plans to implement a risk surcharge on container shipments to Israel in 2024. This decision is in response to the escalating insurance premiums linked to the security situation in the region.
Mitigating Rising Insurance Costs
Due to ongoing increases in insurance premiums for vessels bound for Israel, Maersk has deemed it necessary to introduce an Emergency Risk Surcharge (ERS) starting January 8, 2024. The $50 surcharge on 20-foot containers aims to cover additional insurance costs and ensure a sustainable service for customers despite the challenging security landscape.
