On February 22, a tanker vessel belonging to Maersk was targeted by pirates, while the vessel was anchored in Haiti.
What happened?
Singapore-flagged oil products tanker ‘Maersk Maya’ was targeted by pirates, when the vessel was anchored in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The private security onboard the tanker, sighted perpetrators armed with guns approached the tanker’s forecastle area.
Alarm raised
The crew members raised an alarm and also sounded the general alarm. Noticing the alertness of the crew members, one of the perpetrators reportedly fired a shot at the deck crew.
Fortunately, none of the crew members were injured in the incident as the crew managed to hide inside the accommodation premises.
Authorities notified
The perpetrators cut the mooring rope eye and left the ship. Further information regarding the incident remains unknown.
The local authorities were notified about the incident and the tanker is currently underway using engine, bound for Houston, USA.
