IT failure at Maersk
The shipping company confirmed that “there were problems with the IT network that affect the connectivity between AP Møller-Maersk.”
“This means that employees have problems logging into the central IT network and in our service centers and online booking functions such as maersk.com are affected.”
The spokesman added, “We have no reason to believe this is a cyber attack.” He later added that the network problems “related to one of our external network providers.”
He stated, “The provider believes they have identified and fixed the problem and our Maersk services are recovering globally,” he said.
Speculations of cyber attack
The problem made the market speculate about a second cyber attack in the company. A senior logistics source said he could “not see a CIO survive two cyber attacks.”
Another source said: “Usually if they can fix it quickly they are denied – if not they will admit it was a cyber attack.” That’s standard.
Maersk has urged customers to reach out to their teams for further help and assistance.
