On August 2, a container ship reportedly collided with a tug vessel which was employed in pushing barges on the Amazon river.
What happened?
The Maersk operated container ship ‘Mercosul Santos’ collided with a tug pushing several barges on Amazon river between ports of Juruti and Obidios, Para State, Brazil.
11 people missing:
Around 11 people present onboard the tug were reported missing and a major search operation has been initiated to rescue the missing persons.
The containership has been ordered to anchor at the collision site until further orders. The details of the accident remain unknown and the officials are trying to unearth the missing details.
Investigation launched:
The officials have initiated investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
