Danish shipping major A.P. Moller – Maersk’s dual-fuel methanol feeder vessel will operate on a shipping route between Sweden’s Gothenburg and Germany’s Bremerhaven, reports Engine.
The 2,136 TEU-capacity feeder vessel, Laura Maersk, can run on methanol and conventional marine fuels. The global shipping firm has not confirmed whether the vessel will run entirely on methanol for the voyage.
The Laura Maersk will also stop at ports in Sweden’s Helsingborg and Halmstad, along with Denmark’s Kalundborg. “With the arrival of Laura Maersk on a weekly basis, we are now connecting Gothenburg to a green corridor in Northern Europe,” Birna Ödefors, area managing director Nordics at A.P. Moller Maersk said.
Maersk has more than 20 methanol-powered ships on order for delivery between 2024 and 2027.
