  • TMC will supply marine compressed air systems for DSME’s VLCCs.
  • The 7 VLCCs are a part of the Norwegian Hunter Group which are scheduled for delivery prior to the 2020 deadline.
  • TMC’s compressors match the clean environment profile of these vessels.
  • Expected to deliver four of them by 2019 and the rest by 2020.

In a major development, the TMC Compressors of the Seas has signed contracts to supply marine compressed air systems to seven VLCCs that Korean shipbuilder DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering) is constructing for Norwegian Hunter Group, says a press release from the company.

What lies in the contract?

Under the contracts, TMC will deliver service air compressors as well as air compressors to the SCR systems (selective catalytic reduction) for each of the seven VLCCs. TMC has not disclosed the value of the contracts.

All compressors will be delivered to DSME in Korea. Four of the VLCCs are scheduled for delivery in 2019, and the remaining three in 2020, in time for the new IMO 2020 regime where ship-owners either must equip vessels with scrubbers or use marine gas oil.

The Vision Behind This

TMC Compressors of the Seas is the world’s leading supplier of compressed air systems for marine and offshore use. The company is headquartered in Oslo, with sales and service offices all over the world.

“To be awarded contracts to supply equipment to seven VLCCs is nothing short of magnificent. The VLCCs are built with a clear environmental profile, which TMC’s compressors matches with low energy usage and low maintenance costs,” says Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development.
