Maiden Voyage on Track as Disney Destiny Reaches a Major Milestone

8

The Disney Destiny has left the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, marking a major milestone in its construction. The approximately 20-mile journey down the Ems River, which the vessel had to complete in reverse, was successfully navigated with the help of tugboats and a team of pilots.

The Journey and Arrival

The Disney Destiny, the third ship in the Wish class, began its journey on the evening of September 19, 2025. With a gross tonnage of 144,000, the ship traveled backward along the narrow river, passing through several locks and bridges before reaching open water. By the evening of September 20, the vessel had arrived and docked in Eemshaven, the Netherlands, which was ahead of schedule.

Next Steps for the Vessel

According to the Meyer Werft Shipyard, the ship will undergo final outfitting and adjustments in Eemshaven before being officially handed over to Disney Cruise Line. The handover ceremony is expected to take place in the coming days or weeks. After the official delivery, the ship will begin its sea trials, where experts will test its major systems and overall performance in the open ocean.

Maiden Voyage and Future Plans

Assuming the sea trials are successful, the Disney Destiny is scheduled to make its maiden voyage on November 20, 2025, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The inaugural trip will be a 4-night cruise to Disney’s private islands in the Bahamas. The ship is expected to homeport out of Fort Lauderdale through at least September 2026, offering cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
