There was a huge blaze on board a cargo ship at Crete Hall Road, Gravesend, and it led to a major emergency response in the early hours. The Kent Fire & Rescue Service (KFRS) told the incident to be around 03:00 BST, reports BBC.

Major Emergency Response

During the peak of the incident, the site was visited by:

  1. 10 fire engines
  2. A height vehicle
  3. A technical rescue unit
  4. A bulk water carrier
  5. A water safety unit
  6. Fire boats belonging to the London Fire Brigade
  7. A volunteer response unit providing welfare aid to crews and partners

Coordinated Tactical Operation

Crews were working with the coastguard and London Fire Brigade, said KFRS, implementing a “complex tactical plan” to put out the fire. No one was injured, and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

London Fire Brigade Assistance

Mark Davidson, deputy assistant commissioner from the London Fire Brigade, said: “London firefighters have been mobilised alongside crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service to a ship fire near Gravesend. This includes deploying one of the brigade’s fire boats from Lambeth River Station to the scene. Crews are also helping to provide fire cover in parts of Kent that border London whilst local crews respond to the ship fire.”

The London Fire Brigade confirmed they received a “request for assistance” at 03:12.
