MAN Engines To Power Deutsche Offshore’s Future-Ready CSOV Fleet

14

Wenchong Shipyard in China, part of the CSSC Group, has placed an order for four sets of MAN 8L21/31 MK2 GenSets to power a new fleet of 96-meter Construction and Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (C-CSOVs) for Deutsche Offshore Schifffahrt (DO). These advanced vessels are designed to support offshore wind farm operations and will feature cutting-edge diesel-electric propulsion systems optimized for efficiency, sustainability, and future fuel readiness.

Advanced Engine Technology with Focus on Efficiency and Sustainability

The MAN 8L21/31 MK2 engines are part-load optimized for enhanced fuel efficiency, enabling reduced emissions during offshore operations. Each engine is designed to deliver top-tier performance while maintaining low noise and vibration levels. Notably, these GenSets are methanol-ready and compatible with sustainable biofuels such as HVO and FAME. The vessel design goes beyond class notations by including methanol infrastructure from the outset, ensuring a seamless transition to carbon-neutral operations in the future.

Flexible Vessel Design for Expanding Offshore Wind Operations

The C-CSOVs are tailored to support both the commissioning and construction phases of offshore wind farms, including cable-grid services. Designed by Salt Ship Design AS of Norway, the vessels will be compliant with Dynamic Positioning stage 2 (DP2) standards as per DNV requirements. This level of precision enhances operational capability in harsh marine environments. Delivery of the engines is expected to begin in Q1 2027, with potential options for additional vessels under the agreement.

Strategic Growth in China’s Shipbuilding and MAN’s Global Support

MAN Energy Solutions is observing a steady rise in offshore vessel construction activity in China. With licensee CMP building the engines locally and MAN PrimeServ providing global after-sales support, the company is well-positioned to meet demand across the offshore segment. DO’s collaboration with Columbia Energy for technical management and its innovative approach to vessel development further reinforces its role in shaping the offshore renewable energy market.
