Man Falls Down a Hatch Onboard Containership

Man who fell down a hatch while working on a container ship rescued by two Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), reports The Straits Times.

What happened?

SCDF received a call for medical assistance from an anchored container vessel in the southeast of Singapore @ 12.30pm on Nov 13.  

A man had fallen down a hatch onboard the container vessel and sustained a serious leg injury. Though conscious, he was immobile at the container vessel’s medical bay.

Two Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) vessels deployed, battled strong winds to rescue the man. 

SCDF assistance 

Arriving alongside the container vessel, two SCDF marine specialists quickly boarded the vessel with their rescue and medical equipment. The Marine specialists then carefully secured him onto a stretcher, which was then lowered by ropes and pulleys to a heavy rescue vessel.

The man was taken to Marina South Pier where SCDF paramedics assessed his injuries before taking him to Singapore General Hospital.
