  • CEO Hails Start of Battery and New Diesel Engine Production.
  • €500 Million Investment Secures Future of Historic MAN Plant.
  • Ferris Wheel and Festivities Delight 9,000 Guests.

On July 12, 2025, the historic MAN plant in Nuremberg opened its doors for its first family day in almost ten years, welcoming around 9,000 guests, including 3,000 employees and their loved ones. The celebration was graced by Nuremberg’s mayor, Marcus König, and was filled with a lively atmosphere featuring a Ferris wheel, a beer tent, music, and engaging exhibits, reports MAN.

MAN CEO Praises Dual Transformation Efforts

Highlighting the plant’s recent advancements, MAN CEO Alexander Vlaskamp stated:
“With the successful start of battery production, the company that invented the diesel engine has entered a new era. Production of the latest generation of MAN diesel engines has also started successfully. This means that the site now has two strong pillars. We are extremely proud of what we have achieved together here in Nuremberg and what will continue to develop. The celebration is a sign of our special appreciation for our employees and a big thank you for everything they have achieved.”

A €500 Million Investment to Future-Proof the Site

The Nuremberg plant, which has been cranking out around four million engines since the 1920s, is in the midst of a significant transformation, thanks to a hefty investment of nearly half a billion euros. Out of this total, €250 million is earmarked for battery production. This investment covers not just the assembly of battery packs—each consisting of several modules—but also the manufacturing of those modules themselves. Depending on how the market shapes up, the facility is set to have the capacity to produce up to 100,000 battery packs each year.

The other €250 million is being funnelled into the production of MAN’s latest generation of diesel engines, particularly for the new D30 PowerLion powertrain. This move is viewed as essential for ensuring the long-term sustainability of the plant and protecting jobs.

Ferris Wheel and Festivities Bring Families Together

A stunning 40-metre-high Ferris wheel, which can hold 200 passengers, was built on the factory grounds for the occasion. Owned by the Landwermann family of showmen, who exclusively use MAN trucks “for reasons of quality and tradition,” the Ferris wheel provided breathtaking views of both the plant and the city of Nuremberg.

Transporting the 2,500 tonnes of materials needed for the Ferris wheel required some serious logistical coordination, all handled smoothly with MAN vehicles.

Music, Innovation, and Fun for All Ages

The celebration was a lively affair, packed with an exciting lineup that included a music stage featuring both modern pop and brass bands, a cosy beer tent, and a special “MAN Future Area” where attendees could dive into the company’s innovative production strategies.

Kids and families had a blast with activities like bouncing on a castle, touring a fire engine, and enjoying magic shows, turning the day into a joyful celebration that brought together generations to honour our heritage, progress, and community spirit.
