- Maran Gas Maritime is set to increase its huge LNG carrier orderbook by declaring an optional newbuilding slot in South Korea.
- Newbuilding sources said the John Angelicoussis-led company has already inked the option with favoured shipbuilder DSME.
Maran Gas Maritime, a unit of Greek owner Angelicoussis Shipping Group, has placed an order at South Korean yard DSME for the construction of one 173,400 cu m LNG carrier, reports Splash247.
One more at the DSME yard
The latest order adds to the company’s current orderbook of 13 LNG carriers at DSME.
According to DSME, the ship will be delivered by the fourth quarter of 2021. The value of the contract is not disclosed.
Seven carriers from Maran Gas
DSME said six of the seven LNG carrier orders placed at the yard this year were from Maran Gas, adding that the two parties are currently in talks for additional LNG carrier orders.
Maran Gas’s current fleet stands at 15 LNG carriers.
Latest statistics from Greek brokers Intermodal show that Greek owners now account for 32% of the global LNG orderbook.
