Recognised as “The Leading Maritime Barometer,” Marintec China will be held in Shanghai from 2 – 5 December. With the theme “Innovation and Collaboration for Maritime Sustainability,” the event provides a platform for dialogue, cooperation, and shaping the maritime industry’s future, reports Marintec China.
Four Decades of Growth
Over the past 40 years, Marintec China has hosted 21 editions, growing into one of the largest maritime exhibitions worldwide. The 2023 event broke records for exhibition space, laying a solid groundwork for what’s to come in 2025.
Global Shipbuilding Trends
Since 2021, the global newbuild market has enjoyed five years of growth, but we’re now seeing a slowdown in new orders. In the first half of 2025, global transactions hit 26.58 million CGT, which is a 17.5% drop compared to last year, while deliveries increased by 9.6% to reach 21.69 million CGT.
China continues to lead the way, accounting for 46.6% of global output and 63.7% of new orders, solidifying its position as a powerhouse in shipbuilding.
Expanded Exhibition Space and Global Participation
This year, the exhibition space has grown to an impressive 110,000 m², featuring over 2,200 companies and 16 national and regional pavilions. Major international shipbuilders like Fincantieri, HD Hyundai, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Kawasaki, and Ulstein will be present, along with system providers such as Wartsila, Rolls-Royce, ABB, Cummins, Kongsberg, MacGregor, Schneider Electric, and Siemens. Key classification societies like ABS, Bureau Veritas, DNV, and Lloyd’s Register are also on board.
Domestic participation includes representatives from 24 Chinese provinces, with backing from leading companies like China State Shipbuilding Corporation, COSCO Shipping, China Merchants Industry, and ZPMC. The Academic Zone, organised by four universities, has also seen significant growth.
MarintecCares: Sustainability Initiatives
Looking ahead to Marintec 2025, the event is committed to reducing its environmental footprint. This includes lowering stand construction heights, utilising recycled materials, switching from printed materials to digital options, and promoting renewable energy, all part of the #MarintecCares campaign.
Innovation Highlights
At Marintec Cruise Interiors in Hall N3, you’ll find engaging forums and networking spaces, while Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding is hosting a dedicated cruise equipment forum. The Energytec zone in Halls N4 and W1 shines a spotlight on the latest maritime energy innovations. This area features the Energytec Conference, which dives into topics like fuels, wind and solar energy, electrification, and nuclear power, including a special session on “Nantong Innovation.”
Senior Maritime Forum
The forum, with the theme “Smart Navigation, Green Symbiosis, Convergent Innovation,” gathers top experts from around the globe in shipbuilding, ports, marine finance, law, and equipment technology, all focusing on digitalisation and eco-friendly solutions. Over four days, the event will also host technical forums, product launches, signing ceremonies, awards, and Pudong Shipping Week, which includes seminars, business matchmaking, and cultural activities.
Global Cooperation and Norway as Guest Country
Norway, honoured as the Guest Country, will send a high-level delegation to enhance maritime collaboration, explore sustainable shipping solutions, and align policies. Marintec China remains a vital platform for international cooperation, providing a roadmap for the future of the maritime industry and reinforcing its status as a global maritime benchmark.
