Marsa Maroc And Boluda Towage France Secure 20-Year Towage Contract At Nador West Med Port

A consortium formed by Marsa Maroc and Boluda Towage France has won a 20-year authorization to provide towage and assistance services at Nador West Med port (NWM), following an international tender launched by the port authority.

Key Highlights of the Project

  • Start of Operations:
    Scheduled for the last quarter of 2026.

  • Joint Subsidiary Formation:
    Marsa Maroc and Boluda will create a dedicated subsidiary to manage the operations and required investments.

  • Investment Details:

    • Acquisition of four tugboats with 80-ton bollard pull.

    • Estimated investment: MAD 488.25 million (approx. $48.83 million).

  • Ownership Structure:

    • Boluda Towage France: 51% stake

    • Marsa Maroc: 49% stake

Strategic Implications

This partnership marks a significant step for Marsa Maroc in building out its Towage Business Unit, which aims to consolidate and grow its specialized maritime services.

Marsa Maroc’s Existing Towage Presence

The Towage Business Unit currently operates in seven Moroccan ports:

  • Nador

  • Al Hoceima

  • Mohammedia

  • Safi

  • Agadir

  • Laayoune

  • Dakhla

This long-term agreement not only reinforces Marsa Maroc’s strategic ambitions in maritime services but also reflects the growing importance of public-private partnerships in enhancing Morocco’s port infrastructure and competitiveness.
