Round Two of Bridge Shutdown

The Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) announced on Monday the Zhen Hua 25, will make its way under the Delaware Memorial Bridge Apr. 2. This will cause the bridge to be closed between 4:45 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. The cargo vessel shut down traffic on the bridge that connects New Jersey with Delaware last Thursday.

Purpose of Closure

The DRBA says the closure will be made once again to prevent drivers from being distracted from the ship. Last Tuesday’s bridge closure lasted nearly 15 minutes. The Hong Kong-registered ship will be carrying a 188-foot ship-to-shore crane made by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. in China to Wilmington, NC.

Last Week’s Recap

Last Tuesday, three cranes were aboard the vessel when it made its first passage up the river, but two were offloaded in Philadelphia. In the process of traveling under the twin span bridge, there was a clearance of 5 feet, 2 inches from the top of the crane to the bottom of the bridge’s midspan.
