Details of the Floating Dry Dock
The ₹475 crore project involves a floating dry dock measuring 180 meters in length, 44 meters in width, and 19.5 meters in height. It is being built in six separate blocks by Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd.
Four blocks are already completed in Gujarat. The remaining two blocks will arrive at Nhava Jetty by March.

Once operational by the end of the year, the Nhava facility will accommodate vessels up to 12,800 tons and handle up to eight ships simultaneously.
It is designed to support the construction of advanced ships, such as next-generation destroyers and repair vessels.
Broader Expansion Plans
Mazagon Dock is also investing over ₹1,000 crore into the 40-acre Nhava facility. It is for jetty development, vessel holding, dredging, and related works.
The company further plans to build a combined shipbuilding and repair facility on a 15-acre plot leased from the Mumbai Port Authority.
This includes constructing a graving dry dock of 180 meters in length and 60 meters in width. Ancillary facilities would support simultaneous shipbuilding and repair activities.
Current Yard Capacity
Mazagon Dock’s existing facilities can already accommodate 11 submarines and 10 warships at once.
It underscores its capability to manage large-scale projects while expanding its operational scope.
