One of the world’s largest container shipping groups, Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), has contracted Kongsberg Digital to supply its Vessel Insight digital suite and connectivity to a fleet of around 500 container ships according to an article published in Riviera.
Importance of contract
“This is a very important contract for MSC, as making our fleet more sustainable is one of our top priorities,” said MSC senior vice president and manager of efficiency for the fleet, network and terminals Gianluigi de Maio.
“With Kongsberg Digital and the Vessel Insight data infrastructure we will be able to optimize our vessel operations to become more effective, sustainable and safer,” said Mr de Maio.
MSC’s role
MSC will be able to achieve more transparency and improve use of its own data with the help of Vessel Insight’s vessel-to-cloud data infrastructure.
“MSC is playing a key role in facilitating trade all over the globe, but also in setting the standard in making the industry more sustainable through digitalization,” said Kongsberg Digital president Hege Skryseth.
Building more products
Ms Skryseth said Kongsberg Digital will work with MSC and Kongsberg Maritime to build more digital products.
“This is solid proof technology, expertise and service are in demand. MSC is taking a big leap forward on its digitalization journey,” said Ms Skryseth.
“There are still vast steps to be taken in the maritime sector, and digitalization is key to making shipping safer, greener, and more sustainable.”
