MAN Energy Solutions partners with Alfa Laval to develop a methanol fuel-supply system for retrofitting MAN four-stroke engines, enabling them to operate on methanol by 2025, reports MAN.

Previous Successful Collaboration

This collaboration follows their successful partnership in 2014, where they pioneered the first methanol solution for two-stroke marine engines, which has accumulated over 150,000 hours of operational use.

Supporting Customer Choices

Alfa Laval emphasizes their commitment to supporting customers throughout the fuel transition by adapting their technology to suit different engines and fuel choices, showing pride in this new collaboration with MAN Energy Solutions.

Decarbonization Goals

Both companies highlight the importance of enabling the maritime industry to switch to low-carbon fuels, aiming to make methanol-running feasible for four-stroke engines to contribute to decarbonizing the maritime fleet.

Trust in Partner Expertise

MAN Energy Solutions expresses great trust in Alfa Laval as a reliable partner with extensive experience in fuel-supply systems and methanol projects, citing their adaptable design and numerous successful projects since 2016.

System Components and Testing

Alfa Laval will supply the low-flashpoint fuel-supply system along with the control system, fuel-valve train, and auxiliary functions. The prototype will be developed in Monza, Italy, and tested on a methanol engine at MAN Energy Solutions’ facilities in Germany by early 2024.
