Meyer Turku Marks Keel Laying Of Fourth Icon Class Cruise Ship For Royal Caribbean

12

Meyer Turku Shipyard celebrated a major milestone with the keel laying of the fourth ship in Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class. Known for now as Icon 4, the vessel has officially entered the hull assembly phase, continuing the momentum of one of the cruise industry’s most innovative ship series.

A Traditional Ceremony with Modern Significance

The keel laying was held at the bottom of the building dock, following long-standing maritime traditions. Representatives from Royal Caribbean, the classification society, and Meyer Turku placed coins beneath the first steel block as a symbol of good fortune and protection for the ship.

During the ceremony, project managers from both the shipyard and Royal Caribbean emphasized that close cooperation and experience gained from the earlier ships in the series are helping streamline the construction process.

Icon Class Expansion Continues

The Icon Class is shaping the future of Royal Caribbean’s fleet. Meyer Turku delivered Icon of the Seas in November 2023, followed by Star of the Seas in July 2025. The third vessel, Legend of the Seas, is currently in the outfitting dock and scheduled for completion in summer 2026. With Icon 4 now under construction, Royal Caribbean has also confirmed options for a fifth and sixth Icon Class ship, reinforcing its long-term partnership with Meyer Turku.

The keel laying of Icon 4 marks not just a construction milestone, but also the continuation of a groundbreaking series redefining the cruise experience. As Meyer Turku and Royal Caribbean look ahead, the Icon Class remains a symbol of innovation, collaboration, and the enduring traditions of shipbuilding.
