Migrants hijack the vessel, threaten the crew members and get what they demand, writes Mikhail Voytenko for Maritime Bulletin.
Migrants hijack tourist boat
On June 6, over 400 migrants held offshore on four tourist boats were allowed to disembark in Malta, after migrants on board of one of these boats, Europa II, rioted and effectively, hijacked the boat.
They were holding the crew on the bridge, threatening them with stolen knives and giving Malta authorities half an hour to meet their demand of immediate disembarkation.
They threatened to blow up gas cylinder and start fire on board. Malta capitulated, all boats were allowed to enter harbor and disembark all migrants.
Migrants secluded on boats
“Punishing weather and a five-week imprisonment out at sea pushed people on the brink of sanity” – that’s how media explain acts of serious crimes, committed by migrants.
The migrants found themselves secluded on board of boats. They felt they were deceived? As if seamen all throughout the world don’t go through the same ordeal, being secluded on board of their ships for months, with the only difference between seamen and illegal migrants the former being honest hard-working men, while the latter, being illegal as they are, behaving themselves like thugs and pirates.
None of the migrants was detained, interrogated and charged with life-threatening crimes of kidnap and hijack. They are untouchables and they are immune to all and every laws. Migrants did get a tip-off on a new technology or scheme to reach Europe.
If picked up by merchant ships, they may hijack the ships and the crews, and demand immediate landing, without any fear of possible prosecution. If anything, they’ll be hailed by media as modern heroes in epic fight against racism and slavery.
Previous trial involving migrants
A year or so ago there was a trial in one of EU countries.
A group of migrants were put on trial for the crime of brutal rape of 10-year boy, in public swimming pool. Their advocate said in court, that they did what they did, because they were in a state of “sexual emergency”.
What would happen, if migrants “rescued” by merchant ship, will find themselves in a state of sexual emergency, and try to treat this emergency, using crew members. There are many seamen around, capable of self-defense, who would beat anyone sexually distressed to a pulp.
The problem is, will these seamen be prosecuted, for excessive violence and act of racism?
