- Two Indian ships continue to be stranded in Chinese waters for over six months.
- The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the Indian Mission in Beijing is in touch with the Chinese authorities to seek facilitation and assistance for the Indian crew.
- The bulk cargo vessel MV Jag Anand is on anchorage near Jingtang Port in China’s Hebei province since June 13, with 23 Indian nationals as crew on board.
According to a recent news report published in India Today, India in touch with China over facilitation of 23 Indians stuck on ships at Chinese ports.
What happened?
As two Indian ships continue to be stranded in Chinese waters for over six months, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that the Indian Mission in Beijing is in touch with the Chinese authorities to seek facilitation and assistance for the Indian crew.
Mission in Bejing continues
Speaking to media, MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, “Our Mission in Beijing continues to remain in touch with the Chinese authorities to seek their [stranded Indians’] facilitation and assistance, which can lead to an early resolution of the issue and help ameliorate the situation of the crew.”
Srivastava also said, “Both these vessels are waiting for discharge of cargo. Our government has been in touch with the government of China. Some other ships which arrived after these ships have been able to discharge cargo.”
China supports promptly
China had recently stated that it was in touch with Indian authorities over the 23 Indian sailors stranded on the ship anchored off a northern Chinese port since June, but did not specify when they will be allowed to leave the vessel.
