Yokohama, Japan, based Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. has increased production capacity for its SOx scrubber system that reduces SOx from exhaust gas of ships, reports MarineLog.
Reason for step up in production
With new IMO 2020 sulfur emissions regulations coming into effect in January, Yokohama, Japan, based Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. reports that it has received a steady stream of inquiries from customers worldwide for its DIA-SOx exhaust gas scrubber systems.
In response, it has stepped up production and began shipments of the DIA-SOx C Series and DIA-SOx R Series towers from partner fabricators in China and Taiwan, respectively.
About C Series and R Series
Both C and R series utilize a multi-stream configuration that can treat exhaust gas from multiple engines simultaneously.
C Series
- Jointly developed with Mitsubishi Kakoki Kaisha, Ltd.
- The C Series tower is designed to be fitted on LPG carriers and large oil tankers.
- The fabricator in China that manufactured the C Series tower has a long track record of supplying
- high quality,
- reliable products for MHI Group, and
- has increased its capacity to be able to respond to clients’ requests for short delivery times and multiple slots.
R Series
- Jointly developed with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS).
- The R Series tower is for ultra-large containerships with capacities of 20,000 TEU(Note) and 14,000 TEU.
- The Taiwanese fabricator that manufactured the R Series tower is a long-standing business partner of MHPS.
Scrubber orders
Mitsubishi Shipbuilding has received more than 50 orders to date for the C and R Series scrubbers.
For 18 of the ships concerned, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding is also providing engineering services for installation of the scrubber.
