Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has held a christening and launch ceremony for the TRANS HARMONY EMERALD, the second of two LNG-powered roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) vessels being built for Toyofuji Shipping Co., Ltd. The ceremony took place at the Enoura Plant in Shimonoseki Shipyard & Machinery Works, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The ship’s handover is scheduled for June 2025 following final outfitting and sea trials.

- Type: RO/RO (Roll-On/Roll-Off) vessel
- Length (LOA): Approx. 195 meters
- Beam: Approx. 30.6 meters
- Gross Tonnage: Approx. 49,500 tons
- Capacity: Can carry approximately 3,000 passenger cars
- Service Speed: 19.5 knots
- Main Engines: Dual-fuel engines capable of running on LNG or diesel fuel.
Environmental Benefits
The TRANS HARMONY EMERALD is designed to have a significantly reduced environmental footprint:
- CO2 emissions are reduced by more than 25% compared to similar vessels powered by fuel oil.
- SOx (sulfur oxide) emissions are reduced to near zero, making the vessel environmentally friendly and aligned with global maritime sustainability goals.

Previous Vessel and Future Plans
- The first ship in the series, TRANS HARMONY GREEN, was launched in June 2024, with a handover scheduled for January 2025.
- Mitsubishi Shipbuilding continues to focus on building LNG-powered ferries and RO/RO ships, contributing to stable maritime operations and energy efficiency.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the maritime industry to reduce emissions and improve sustainability through the adoption of LNG-powered vessels.
