Mitsui Joins Copenhagen-based Coalition for Emission Reduction

  • Mitsui & Co. is the latest company to join the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.
  • The center has seven founding partners and six strategic partners including Mitsui.
  • Mitsui will plan and operate projects and also provide its knowledge throughout the entire supply chain.

Japan’s Mitsui & Co., Ltd. became a strategic partner of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS), a not-for-profit international research and development center dedicated to the decarbonization of the shipping industry, reports Offshore Energy.

Alternative fuels in shipping

Mitsui & Co. has relevant experience in this area through its extensive analytical expertise of supply chain dynamics.

Mitsui noted that the technological development, supply capacity, and economic viability of alternative fuels would need to be overcome in order for them to be introduced. It will also be necessary to verify their practicality across entire supply chains.

  • Mitsui & Co. will also contribute to the planning and operation of projects and will also contribute its commercial experience of end-to-end supply chain management.
  • Mitsui & Co. will also second specialists to the Center who will join Center staff and secondees from other partners in Copenhagen, working jointly on projects and activities facilitated by the Center.

Development of zero carbon vessels

The Center and other leading players across the shipping sector in the development of future fuels for maritime, their supply chain and their implementation pathways including renewable power generation and the design and development of conceptual zero carbon vessels.
