Moderna Declines China’s Request To Reveal Vaccine Technology

Moderna Inc. has refused to transfer the technology for its COVID-19 vaccine to China because of possible reputation risks if its local partner failed to follow correct manufacturing processes, the Financial Times reported.

The company also declined China’s request to hand over the recipe for its mRNA vaccine because of commercial and safety concerns, the newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter who were involved in negotiations that took place between 2020 and 2021. Moderna still wants to sell the vaccine to China, FT said.

We are not currently engaged in supply talks with China,” Moderna told the Financial Times. “We are open to speaking with countries on their supply needs for COVID-19 vaccines.”
