389

Tokyo-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and Bahrain’s Bapco Energies have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of a cross-border carbon dioxide (CO2) transport and sequestration project. The partnership aims to establish a comprehensive carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) value chain, with MOL handling the marine transportation of liquefied CO2 and Bapco Energies providing the sequestration sites.

Exploring CCS Opportunities in the Middle East

The collaboration involves studying the estimated costs of utilizing Bapco Energies’ permanent CO2 storage facilities in Bahrain, including expenses related to the CO2 receiving terminal and the shipping of liquefied CO2. Additionally, the partners will jointly explore potential markets in the Asia-Pacific region, exemplifying a commitment to establishing a CCS value chain and fostering a bridge between Bahrain and the region.
