Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), represented by Takeshi Hashimoto, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Madoqua Renewables Holding Lda (Madoqua) and other global partners to develop a Green Corridor connecting Portugal to Northern Europe. This ambitious project aims to establish a low-emission shipping route while supporting the transport of low-carbon fuels, reinforcing MOL’s commitment to innovation in sustainable shipping.
Project Objectives and Scope
- Low-Emission Shipping:
- Utilization of low-emission shipping solutions along the corridor.
- Transportation of green fuels such as green ammonia and e-methanol.
- Deployment of zero-emission ships to decarbonize maritime transport.
- Global Collaboration:
- Involves diverse stakeholders across the energy transition value chain, including:
- Financial institutions
- Terminal operators
- Academic and policy institutions
- Green fuel producers and off-takers
- Supported by agreements between Germany’s North Rhine-Westphalia and Portugal, and partnerships with key ports, including Sines, Rotterdam, and Duisburg.
MOL’s Role as Shipping Logistics Partner
- Key Responsibilities:
- Transportation of green fuels and CO₂.
- Promoting and operationalizing zero-emission vessels.
- Providing strategic insights into logistical and operational requirements for green fuel transport.
- Alignment with Environmental Vision 2.2:
- MOL’s active participation aligns with its environmental strategy, including the goal of net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.
