MOL Joins Forces With Smart Freight Centre To Decarbonize Logistics

  • Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), a leading shipping company, announced today that it has joined the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) Community as a member.
  • SFC is an international non-profit organization dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the freight transportation sector.

Focus on Decarbonization

SFC works across various logistics segments to establish guidelines for decarbonization. This includes:

  • Visualizing GHG emissions: Identifying and quantifying emissions throughout the logistics chain.
  • Recommending emission reduction strategies: Providing recommendations for optimizing transportation to minimize environmental impact.
  • Promoting collaboration: Facilitating cooperation among international logistics organizations and associations to achieve the shared goal of zero emissions by 2050. This aligns with the global target of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

MOL’s Commitment to Sustainability

MOL recognizes the importance of sustainability and has identified five key “Sustainability Issues” (Materiality) that are crucial for achieving sustainable development. Their “MOL Sustainability Plan” outlines various initiatives to address environmental and other social issues.

By joining the SFC Community, MOL reaffirms its commitment to the environment under its corporate mission: “From the blue oceans, we sustain people’s lives and ensure a prosperous future.” Through this collaboration, MOL aims to:

  • Accelerate its sustainability initiatives.
  • Deliver greater value to stakeholders.
