Moller-Maersk: Advancing Maritime Sustainability with Green Fuels

14

This year, the push for global maritime sustainability takes center stage as efforts intensify to secure international regulations from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), reports A.P. Moller-Mersk.

The goal is to close the price gap between fossil fuels and lower-emission alternatives, paving the way for a cleaner future in shipping.

Collaboration at the Core

Collaboration remains at the heart of our efforts, as we work closely with regulators, industry peers, and customers to overcome challenges and accelerate the energy transition,” says Leonardo Sonzio, Head of Fleet Management and Technology. This cooperative approach underscores the importance of industry-wide efforts to create impactful change.

Expanding the Dual-Fuel Methanol Fleet

By the end of 2025, the company plans to have 19 dual-fuel methanol vessels in operation, showcasing the growing readiness and reliability of this innovative technology. These vessels represent a significant step forward in reducing emissions while maintaining operational efficiency.

Milestone in Green Fuel Supply

A key achievement in the journey towards greener shipping will be the first deliveries of e-methanol from European Energy’s Kassø facility in Denmark. This marks a critical step in sourcing sustainable fuel and reinforces the company’s commitment to alternative energy pathways.

Exploring Multiple Fuel Pathways

Looking beyond methanol, the company is actively exploring multiple fuel pathways to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience in the maritime industry. This approach emphasizes adaptability and forward-thinking in the face of evolving energy technologies
