Mongolian Cargo Ship Sinks

On January 28, two crew members were reportedly rescued from a sinking cargo ship by the Chinese army.

What happened?

A Mongolian cargo ship transporting a cargo of white sugar with 13 crew members onboard when it reportedly ran into trouble and started sinking.

The crew members sent a distress signal and the Chinese People’s Liberation Army naval centre dispatched its vessel and rescued two crew members from drowning in waters off Wenzhou in east China’s Zhejiang Province.

Statement released

A statement released by the Eastern Theater Command said, “The command center sent the naval vessel Jinan for rescue after receiving report that the cargo ship was sinking around 11 p.m on Sunday.”

The two rescued crew members were provided medical help, one is a Chinese whereas the other one is an Indonesian.

Search on for others

One of the two rescued is Chinese (from Taiwan Province), and the other is Indonesian. Their lives are not in danger.

The search is in progress to find the remaining eleven crew members who are reportedly missing.

An investigation has also been launched to determine the events leading to the vessel sinking.
