The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has arrested a total of 101 vessels over violation in Johor from January this year, reports Manifold times.
Arrests over violations
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Sunday (26 September) said it has arrested a total of 101 vessels over violation of Section 491B (1)(l) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 in Johor from January this year.
Fines collected
It reported a total of MYR 2.5 million collected in fines and compounds, and a total of MYR 1. 3 million collected through illegal anchoring operations.
About the arrests
Illegal anchoring operations
The illegal anchoring operations commenced on 24 March has resulted in the arrest of 83 vessels to date; while an earlier operation recorded 18 arrests.
Illegal oil transfer activities
A latest operation on Friday (24 September), meanwhile, has resulted in the arrest of two oil tankers involved in oil transfer activities in East Johor’s water area at 22 north-eastern nautical miles of Tanjung Siang, Johor.
Alleged illegal entry
One of the arrested tankers recently settled a trial case for alleged illegal entry, says MMEA.
The Mongolia-registered vessel, operated by eight Indonesian crew aged between 23 years to 66 years of age, was earlier arrested on 31 August.
The Panama registered tanker was manned by 25 crews consisting of Indonesians, Ukraine, Georgia and Russia aged between 23 to 53 years of age.
