MPA and MISC Join Forces to Drive Maritime Digital Transformation

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and MISC Berhad have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to foster innovation, research, and test-bedding activities to accelerate digital transformation in the maritime industry. The MoU, signed by Mr. David Foo, Assistant Chief Executive (Operations and Operations Technology), MPA, and Mr. Mohd Denny Mohd Isa, Vice President, MISC Marine, was witnessed by Mr. Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive, MPA, and Mr. Zahid Osman, President and Group CEO of MISC Berhad.

Advancing Sustainable Digital Technologies

Under the three-year agreement, MPA and MISC will integrate sustainable digital solutions into marine operations. This includes trials on the Just-in-Time Planning and Coordination platform under digitalPort@SG™, enabling efficient tanker operations. They will also enhance data-sharing capabilities to support e-clearances and e-certificates for Singapore-registered ships, alongside conducting cybersecurity solution trials through the Maritime Cyber Assurance and Operations Centre.

Leveraging Cutting-Edge Research

Collaborating with Singapore’s research ecosystem, the partners aim to explore artificial intelligence, digital twins, and semi-autonomous vessel technologies. These innovations will focus on improving operational efficiency and safety across shipping processes.

Prioritizing Talent Development

The MoU also addresses workforce readiness by identifying emerging skills, upskilling seafarers for alternative-fuelled vessels, and advancing training initiatives under the Maritime Energy Training Facility. This ensures a future-ready workforce aligned with industry advancements.
