Since Monday, haze has become the reason for the reduced visibility in the Singapore Strait and port waters. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has started to alert the ships on this issue. Some of the guidelines issued by the local port authorities to avoid further trouble due to haze are as follows:

  • Ship Masters must maintain a proper lookout.
  • Cautious navigation is a possible option during such periods of restricted visibility.
  • The ships should comply with international regulations to prevent collisions at Sea.
  • Also, rules concerning the conduct of vessels in low visibility and exhibition of navigation lights and sound signals have to be complied with.

It is believed that the winds blowing from Sumatra, Indonesia is the reason for haze in Singapore.
